Babingtonite crystals on matrix from Sweden, Norway, USA and India.
Babingtonite is a calcium iron manganese inosilicate mineral with the formula Ca2(Fe,Mn)FeSi5O14(OH).
IMA formula is slightly different : Ca2Fe2+Fe3+Si5O14(OH).
Both formulas are valid as manganese can replace some of the Fe2+ iron.
The colour is very dark green to nearly black.
The Type locality is Arendal Iron Mines, Arendal, Agder, Norway.
